Dermal Fillers (Juvaderm)

Injectable dermal fillers are used as minimally invasive procedures to plump up thin lips, deeply enhance contours, soften facial creases and wrinkles, and reduce the appearance of reddened scars. A dermal filler is used to minimize facial lines and restore skin’s volume and fullness.

There are many types of dermal fillers used to achieve desired results. Juvaderm is highly respected brand among physicians at ASAP. Juvaderm nicely enhances the patient’s natural appearance, increases confidence and has relatively minimal risks and side effects.

After years of aging, the facial skin stretches slightly and loses youthful-looking fat. Cheeks may flatten with age and the facial skin may begin to sag. This causes smile lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet to look more apparent over time. Combined with time, sun exposure, genes and lifestyle, the skin begins to show its age causing one to lose confidence in his or her appearance.

The procedure begins with a facial assessment done by a physician. The doctor will evaluate your facial appearance and the quality of the skin in order to determine which areas of the face will be treated. These areas will be marked in order to ensure that the dermal fillers will be injected into the correct sites. Next, the marked sites will be cleaned with an antibacterial cleaner and immediately numbed with an anesthetic ointment.

The physician will then insert the dermal filler into the marked sites with minimum pain. This process does not take long since the injection sites have already been evaluated and marked before the procedure. Once the desired results are reached, the markings will quickly be cleaned off.

Patients may be given an ice pack to reduce pain and swelling. Typically, the minimal pain is tolerable and does not require further medication. Common side effects include mild swelling, firmness, tenderness, minor discoloration, bruising and itching.

As soon as the procedure is completed, the results will be noticeable. The full results will come after the swelling and redness has dissipated. Dermal fillers can be used alone or in addition to facial reconstruction surgery such as facelifts, brow lifts and eye lifts.
